Friendship. Webster’s dictionary says that is “a relationship of mutual affection and good will, the state of being a friend or of being friends, harmonious cooperation.” The Bible simply states in Proverbs 18:24, “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” I believe that this scripture illustrates the nature of Friendship Baptist Church.
We are a congregation that truly lives up to its name. As the church grows, so does our friendship. The relationship that we have with each other is so close that it is scriptural in its comparison to a family. One of our favorite songs to sing is The Family of God. There is a line in the song that says, “you will notice we say brother and sister around here, it’s because we are a family and these folks are so dear.” I invite anyone to come and see the relationship we have to each other, and how we live up to our name. Jesus, in John 15:13 told the disciples that from that point on He would call them friend. At Friendship, every child of God is our friend.
I am pleased to say that Friendship Baptist Church is a church that is ever changing. 1 Corinthians 12:12-17 speaks of the Church being the Body of Christ. Just as your physical body is ever changing, growing, aging, renewing itself, so should the Church. When the church stands stagnant, then it will soon die. Amid all of this talk of change, we know there are some things that will never change.
At Friendship Baptist Church, we honor the Word of God, and hold it as our only authority. Luke 21:33 tells us His word will not pass away, and we believe He preserved it in the Kings James Version. Hebrews 13:8 tells us Jesus is the same always, he never changes. Lastly, Galatians 1 tells us there is no new gospel. Thank God, some things never change.
